Meet Parker Macy from Creme Tangerine

Meet Parker Macy, the brains behind Creme Tangerine Records. As one of Orange County's more prominent independent record stores, its reputation of offering highly curated vinyl with solid tunes spinning all day stands strong. Not surprisingly, the response from the vinyl community in Orange County has been overwhelmingly positive and Creme Tangerine has been a reservoir of choice for music lovers and local musicians alike.

We can't give it all away in the intro, so scroll down to read more about Parker's favorite records from his own collection, bands he works with on his record label, and what he's got in store for you on Record Store Day (Saturday, April 21st).

Q: When did Creme Tangerine open?

A: We opened seven years ago in 2011.

Q: How do you curate the inventory for your store?

A: We are constantly seeking out and buying collections locally and across the country. We also order new records from our distributors but nothing beats going through somebody’s collection and seeing their entire musical history.

Q: Favorite moments as a record shop owner?

A: As a kid, I was obsessed with record stores and the knowledge gained by digging through stacks of wax. The most rewarding parts of my job are when young people tell me that we showed them a record or band that changed their perception. The idea that we are creating a similar experience for younger generations who have had less exposure to buying music in a retail environment is always the highest praise we can receive.

Q: Top 3 favorites from your own personal collection?

A: This is an impossible question to answer... but at the moment:

    1.  Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks

    2. Velvet Underground- Loaded

    3. Coven - Witchcraft Destroys Minds And Reaps Souls

Q: I know Creme Tangerine also has its own record label. Tell us about an interesting band you’re working with!

A: The most recent band we have worked with is Big Monsta. We released two cassettes with them and they are undoubtedly one of the strongest acts in the area.

Q: So Record Store Day is coming up this Saturday, April 21st. What is Creme Tangerine planning on doing to celebrate?

A: We will open early at 8 am. We will have a ton of limited edition Record Store Day releases and half-off our discount section. We recommend folks line up a little early to ensure a fair shot at the best stuff.
